Medical school

The study of medicine is a powerful integration of science, technologies, experience, and experiment that enables students to alleviate human pain and suffering wherever in the world it may occur. At its finest, it is a quest to improve the human condition. To study medicine at Harvard is to prepare to play a leading role in this quest. For over two centuries, Harvard Medical School has excelled not only in teaching the practice of medicine but also in bringing out the best in those who practice it. At HMS, students can pursue their individual interests, find their calling, and discover how they can change the fabric of medicine, science, and society.A Harvard Medical School education prepares students to excel in the rapidly changing landscape of modern medicine through a curriculum grounded in the study of leading biomedical science and clinical experience, a rich diversity of degree program choices, and a history of innovation that continues to set the standard for excellence in medical education in the United States and around the world.

10 Keys to personal power

Key 1Clarity
"Have vision. Determine what you want to be, do or have in life.  Have a sense of direction and know where you’re going.  If you do not have clear specific goals in life, you are doomed forever to work for others who do."
believe  that clarity s to be clean. clean in spiritual, emotional, mental. Don't be doing nothing bad or things of doing bad stuff.be clean in life. What I think this means is the quality of being clear in particular. Also to have an idea on what your going to do. Be aware on what decisions your making, set goals so you will push yourself a little more than usual. If not then most likely you are going to fail.  This first key is a good one because It will hep you start of good and set goals.
i will apply this to my life to make it better

Key 2Competence
"If you commit to excellence, opportunities will always come your way. The harder you work, the better you get."Clarity is to have a vision of what you want to be or do in life. Having clarity is a gateway to a path that gives direction for what you want in life it enables access. For example, having clarity in high school will help you in the future because you'll know what to do or what you want to get into. Having a clear vision to achieve your goals will encourage you to strive for success and work for what you want. When you achieve something that you have been wanting for a long time it gives you feeling of happiness because you did what you want and never give up
i am going to apply this to my life to make it better
Key 3Concentration

"Make the best use of your time. Ask yourself “Is this the best use of my time?” before you start anything."
If you rely on triple lattes to pay attention, you’ll likely find it harder to focus when you’re not buzzed. “Your brain will begin to operate as though it requires caffeine to be alert,” explains Coates. A more effective stimulant: exercise. Physical activity has been shown to sharpen focus, in people with ADHD and without, possibly because it can help trigger the release of chemicals in the brain that are thought to affect learning and memory. One report from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign suggests that aerobic exercise in particular may improve immediate and long-term functioning in regions of the brain relating to attention.“When a patient suspects she has ADHD, one of the first things I investigate is her sleep routine,” says Vatsal G. Thakkar, MD, clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine. “The inability to concentrate is often caused by a lack of delta sleep.” Thakkar is referring to the slow-wave stage that precedes REM sleep; it’s the time when the brain powers down, and some evidence suggests it’s the period in which certain cognitive functions consolidate and strengthen. “If you’re regularly dipping below seven hours, you’re likely cutting into the delta phase, and this can make it difficult to focus when you’re awake,” says Thakkar. His Rx: Get a solid seven to nine hours a night for at least two weeks. If your concentration doesn’t improve, see a sleep specialist to determine if an undiagnosed disorder like sleep apnea might be to blame.
Key 4Common Sense
  • Train your mind
  • think things through
  • listen to your intuition
  • learn from setbacks
Common sense is a hing you have to do every single day for the rest of your life. When your talking because of a job interview , at school, work, or even just with friends you have to use common sense so people can understand you and listen to you. Everything has to have common sense.
Key 5Creativity

"Except the fact that every human being is a genius.  The hallmark of creativity is asking questions.  The people who are most creative ask the most questions."Creative thinking means thinking about new things or thinking in new ways. It is “thinking outside the box.” Often, creativity in this sense involves what is called lateral thinking, or the ability to perceive patterns that are not obvious. The fictional detective Sherlock Holmes used lateral thinking in one famous story when he realized that a dog not barking was an important clue in a murder case. Some people are naturally more creative than others, but creative thinking can be strengthened with practice. You can practice creative thinking by solving riddles, by becoming aware of and letting go of your assumptions, and through play—anything unstructured and relaxing. Even daydreaming can help.Creative people can devise new ways to carry out tasks, solve problems, and meet challenges. They bring a fresh and sometimes unorthodox perspective to their work and can help departments and organizations to move in more productive directions. Is it any wonder many employers seek candidates with creative thinking skills for many different jobs? and other people who are creative are more likely to loved by people they meet.

Key 6Consideration
"The quality of your relationships with other people will determine your success in life."
"Develop the people skills you need to become a better communicator.  Take courses in listening, speaking, etc."
"If you were to learn one new word a day, within 5 years, you’ll be the best educated person in history."
Every time you meet a new person you have to build a relationships with them but a good one. Building relationships with people is one of the best qualities to have to be successful.Consideration is the concept of value offered and accepted by people or organisations entering into contracts. Anything of value promised by one party to the other when making a contract can be treated as "consideration": for example, if A signs a contract to buy a car from B for $5,000, A's consideration is the $5,000, and B's consideration is the car.Additionally, if A signs a contract with B such that A will paint B's house for $500, A's consideration is the service of painting B's house, and B's consideration is $500 paid to A. Further, if A signs a contract with B such that A will not repaint his own house in any other color than white, and B will pay A $500 per year to keep this deal up, there is also consideration. Although A did not promise to affirmatively do anything, A did promise not to do something that he was allowed to do, and so A did pass consideration. A's consideration to B is the forbearance in painting his own house in a color other than white, and B's consideration to A is $500 per year. Conversely, if A signs a contract to buy a car from B for $0, B's consideration is still the car, but A is giving no consideration, and so there is no valid contract. However, if B still gives the title to the car to A, then B cannot take the car back, since, while it may not be a valid contract, it is a valid gift.

Key 7Consistency
"Dependable, steady predictable work is always superior to fast spurts of work."

Be consistent in your relationships, your family, friends, your boss, your work.  Be the person that people can depend upon.  That if you say you’ll do something you do it.."
Logically ordered and/or following the same pattern. For example, a salesperson's growth is usually consistent with his or her company's earnings.Unchanging; steady. For example, a person that arrives exactly 5 minutes early to work every day is consistently punctual or on-time.Being in conformity with a set of rules, guidelines or policies. Television stations, for example, need to be consistent with FCC regulations in order to be allowed to broadcast.
Key 8Commitment
"No success is possible without commitment.  The ability to commit yourself whole heartily is the basis of achieving all success."

"Become totally absorbed in your work.  Be totally committed."
Accounting: Earmarking or setting-aside of funds in response to a purchase requisition. These funds remain committed (encumbered) until the purchased good or service is paid-for after its receipt, thereby converting the encumbrance into an expenditure. See also obligation. Lending: Written assurance from a lender to a borrower that a specified amount of loan or line of credit will be made available at a certain rate and during a certain period. Lenders charge a commitment fee for this service. Law: Order by which a court directs a person to be confined in a penal or mental health institution.
Key 9Courage

"The fear of failure is the single greatest reason for failure in life."

the choice and willingness to confront agony, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. Physical courage is bravery in the face of physical pain, hardship, death or threat of death, while moral courage is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, discouragement, or personal loss.
The classical virtue of fortitude (andreia, fortitudo) is also translated "courage", but includes the aspects of perseverance and patience.
In the Western tradition, notable thoughts on courage have come from philosophers, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Aquinas, and Kierkegaard; in the Eastern tradition, some thoughts on courage were offered by the Tao Te Ching. More recently, courage has been explored by the discipline of psychology.
Key 10Confidence

"You only get confidence by doing things over and over again ."
Self-confidence does not necessarily imply "self-belief" or a belief in one's ability to succeed. For instance, one may be inept at a particular sport or activity, but remain "confident" in one's demeanor, simply because one does not place a great deal of emphasis on the outcome of the activity. When one does not dwell on negative consequences one can be more "self-confident" because one is worrying far less about failure or the disapproval of others following potential failure. One is then more likely to focus on the actual situation which means that enjoyment and success in that situation is also more probable. Belief in one's abilities to perform an activity comes through successful experience and may add to, or consolidate, a general sense of self-confidence.Studies have also found a link between high levels of confidence and wages. Seemingly, those who self-report they were confident earlier in schooling earned better wages and were promoted more quickly over the life course.Confidence has a common meaning of a certainty about handling something, such as work, family, social events, or relationships. Some have ascribed confidence as a state of being certain either that a hypothesis or prediction is correct or that a chosen course of action is the best or most effective. Self-confidence is having confidence in one's self. Arrogance or hubris in this comparison is having unmerited confidence—believing something or someone is capable or correct when they are not. Overconfidence or presumptuousness is excessive belief in someone (or something) succeeding, without any regard for failure. Confidence can be a self-fulfilling prophecy as those without it may fail or not try because they lack it and those with it may succeed because they have it rather than because of an innate ability. Taken to an extreme, over-confidence can cause problems as evidenced by the famous author Matthew Syed and mentioned here in this reference in regard to sport.
